About this event

Due to a last minute opportunity this event now has the added benefits:-

The HAAF Auster mk 9 aircraft has now been tasked with a "live flying sortie” during our morning session, as detailed below:-

RFC Fly-past
"The HAAF will be preparing the Auster 9 for a commemorative fly-past associated with an RFC pilot who died at Netheravon in 1917.”

Due to the timings of this flight we have decided to combine our two events to take advantage of this flight and it’s associated taxi in/out of the apron.
This will be a fantastic extra opportunity to photograph both the Auster and the Beaver carrying out their respective ground checks and taxiing around the apron.

We have also increased the total time available to 4 hrs to take advantage of all this extra activity.

We hope you recognise the unique opportunity of this latest feature and we look forward to you joining us on the 19th June.

To allow for Middle Wallop security to check your details, please book before 18:00 on Tuesday 14th June 2022.

Event Details:

It gives us great pleasure to offer this session with 12 photographers, courtesy of the Historic Army Aircraft Flight (HAAF) based at Middle Wallop. This will be a unique opportunity that would otherwise not be possible without the exclusive access we have arranged with the help of the HAAF.

During this session we will get up close and shadow the HAAF Pilots as they are tasked with the days mission. This might be a training flight or an away flight to attend an official event. We will observe them as they check the weather and carry out their briefings in the ops room before checking their flight kit and entering the hanger to check with the engineers on the serviceability of the aircraft. After checking the tech log we will then follow them out to the apron where the pilots will carry out their pre flight checks.
We plan to photograph the Beaver (XP820) as the crew start the aircraft and carry out their taxi checks in and out of the apron.

There will also be the option of a 20 minute flight for a donation of £300 payable direct to the HAAF on the day. Please email us in advance if you are interested in this option.

After the flight we will then follow the pilots as they carry out their post flight checks and return to ops to de-brief.

Aircraft planned to feature in this event:-

Beaver XP820
Auster Mk 9 XR244

The HAAF collection of aircraft consists of a Auster Mk 1, Auster Mk 9, Beaver, Chipmunk, Sioux, Scout, Skeeter and a Tiger Moth. Four of them are kept in an airworthy condition to allow the HAAF to display them at air shows around the UK.

This event will give us a fantastic insight into a typical day of a HAAF pilot as we follow them carrying out their meticulous pre and post flight checks.
It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of all the HAAF pilots and engineers in keeping these fantastic historic aircraft and helicopters flying that allows them to be displayed to the public.

This promises to be another exciting and unique photographic event and proceeds from this event will help support the HAAF to maintain these fantastic aircraft for generations to come.

We also suggest that you make a day of your time at Middle Wallop by visiting the Army Flying Museum (AFM) before or after your event. The museum is open 10:00-16:30.

The museum covers the five main branches of Army Aviation: Royal Engineers (1878 – 1912), The Royal Flying Corps (1912-1918), Air Observation Post Squadrons (1941 – 1957), the Glider Pilot Regiment (1942 – 1957) and the current Army Air Corps (1957- to date). Over 40 aircraft can be seen in the Museum. The collection also contains smaller items such as uniforms, medals and equipment which they use to tell inspiring stories about the people involved in Army aviation.

The Museum has the Apache cafe which will be open from 09:00-16:00, you do not need an entrance ticket to use the cafe. A selection of hot and cold food is available including a breakfast and a lunch menu. They have a menu online which can be accessed via their website here.
