Remembering the famous nighttime events of the 1980s and 1990s, we will have an evening at Didcot Railway Centre with three locomotives in action and steam filling the night sky with static and moving trains

	Those of you of a certain age will remember the busy and popular photography evenings that the Great Western Society used to host many years ago. These featured many cameos, working steam demonstrations, disposal of the fires, coaling at the coaling stage and many other scenes, all bringing back memories of a working steam shed in its heyday.






	
	
	




Taking those events as our starting point, though with fewer participants, we aim to provide an evening oozing steam atmosphere with both static and moving scenes to photograph. This should give some completely different opportunities to our other events, so for those who would like to capture moving images of steam locomotives in action after dark, this is the night for you. We will use both the shed area and the main demonstration line, so ramp up the ISO and see what modern cameras can achieve! 









	
	
	




We expect to have three locomotives in steam. 5101 Class No.4144 will star alongside either No.2900 Lady of Legend or 4079 Pendennis Castle (to be confirmed nearer the time) and No.1340 Trojan. All are in Great Western green livery and will amply suit their surroundings. We will limit the number of participants to ensure comfortable photography and, with several cameos taking place at any one time, everyone should be able to get the pictures they most desire. 

	
	
	
	
	
	









	
	
	
	
	
	
The event will run from around 16.30 hours until 22.30 hours. For those wishing to make a day or afternoon of it, the Museum will be open to the public from 10.00 until 16.00 with locos in steam around the shed and working the main demonstration line. Catering will be available from approximately 19.00 to 20.00 hours. It is a long time since we have had this much live steam activity on one of our evening shoots, so why not join us in February 2025 to savour the sights, sounds and atmosphere of steam at work.
