Join us for an evening of spring steam action featuring visiting Atlantic H2 class loco Beachyhead

Those of you of a certain age will remember the busy and popular photography evenings that the Great Western Society used to host many years ago. These featured many cameos, working steam demonstrations, disposal of the fires, coaling at the coaling stage and many other scenes, all bringing back memories of a working steam shed in its heyday.

The event will run from around 17:00 hours until 22.00 hours. For those wishing to make a day or afternoon of it, the Museum will be open to the public from 10.00 until 16.00 with locos in steam around the shed and working the main demonstration line. Catering will be available all day plus a hot meal from approximately 19.00 to 20.00 hours (at extra cost). 

Beachyhead is visiting Didcot Railway Centre for the Centre's Spring Gala courtesy of the Bluebell Railway and will feature for a few days only, this event will see us have exclusive use of the loco. She will be in full steam and our evening will start on the Centre's beautifully preserved South Railway Turntable. We will then drop back to the front of shed area where will create various cameos with a small group of re-enactors as the sun sets. After dark we will head inside and continue the recreations for the camera.

This event has the makings of a very authentic evening and a rare sight indeed, and we look forward to seeing many of you on the night.
