About this event

Another new venue for 2017 is the Open Air Museum at Blists Hill, part of the world-famous Ironbridge complex of museums. As a backdrop for period events from the Victorian era onwards, Blists Hill is ideal and we are delighted to be able to offer our first visit to the Museum which will, we hope, be repeated in the future to recreate different historical periods.

The creation of Blists Hill as a museum began in 1967 at the same time that a brand new town, Telford, was being built on the former East Shropshire Coalfield. The industrial archeology that had so defined the region during the Industrial Revolution was gradually disappearing and it was felt that efforts should be made to preserve the buildings and artifacts that were so much a part of the area’s history. Located on a 50-acre site, Blists Hill incorporates some of the location’s original industrial features which have been restored. In addition, other buildings have been constructed to create a small town reminiscent of the area at the turn of the Nineteenth Century. The town is now one of ten museums that together form the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. Buildings from a variety of different periods have been accurately researched and constructed using new heritage bricks and, with the exception of the post office, all are copies of an original structure from the area of the East Shropshire Coalfield.

We are very grateful to experienced local re-enacting groups who have kindly agreed to come along and be a part of this event. We will have a mixture of civilian and military re-enactors joining us with changes of attire to create variety in our scenes. We also hope to have two jeeps and at least two ‘civilian’ cars of the period so it should be an entertaining evening.

We should be able to enter the site from approximately 16.00 onwards (tickets will be issued to all participants) and begin our photography at 17.00 hours. We will concentrate on the main town area at Blists Hill which will provide a fine backdrop to our cameos. We aim to continue photographing until dusk, which should fall at around 21.30 hours at that time of the year, so we should have four hours and more of photography around this most interesting site. As with many top quality venues, it is reasonably expensive to hire but well worth it in terms of what the site has to offer.

We aim for a relaxed and enjoyable evening with plenty of good cameo scenes to photograph against a great period backdrop. So, why not join us for what promises to be an action-packed session of photography at this world-famous venue!

Event cost £58.00 per person.
