About this event

We are extremely pleased to be returning to the 'Middy' this September for another fun packed day and evening with visiting locomotive Y7 No. 1310. Our day will see us setting up many different cameos with the loco on the railways beautifully restored rolling stock. Along with the special guest we will be making use of the resident locos and a number of visiting road going attractions.

The 'H' Class shunting locomotives (later LNER Y7 Class) designed by T W Wordsell were short wheelbase engines built to negotiate the tight curves in shunting yards or on docksides. The design was first introduced in 1888 and proved successful enough for the last members of the class to be built as late as 1923 under LNER ownership.

Built at Gateshead in 1891 for the North Eastern Railway, No.1310 passed into LNER ownership in 1923. The locomotive was sold to Robert Frazer and Sons in the early 1930s and then worked at Pelaw Main Colliery and later at Watergate Colliery. The engine passed into National Coal Board ownership in 1949 and the preservation group Steam Power Trust 65 purchased the locomotive from the NCB in 1965. The 'Y7' has made its home at the Middleton Railway in Leeds. It has been painted in an attractive North Eastern Railway light green livery, in which it will make a splendid sight at the head of the Mid-Suffolk Railway's beautifully restored vintage stock. This will also be something rather different from the black-liveried 'Y7' No.985 that has appeared in previous shoots.

As on our other photo shoots, we will have a selection of vintage vehicles and appropriately dressed re-enactors to bring added life and vitality to the scenes. The pony will be making an appearance and there is the possibility of the dray being pressed into service for a cameo role.

The Mid-Suffolk Railway is based at Brockford Station near Wetheringsett in Suffolk. Those who joined our previously in 2016 will have seen the huge potential of this relatively compact site with limitless cameos that can be set up using locos and stock that perfectly complement the location. For those who have not visited the Railway before, a real treat is in store. Although far from the longest heritage line in the country (though they now have permission to double the length of line in the near future), what the Mid-Suffolk lacks in length it more than makes up for in character, with Brockford station oozing atmosphere and the yard and running line lending themselves to a wide variety of period scenes.

Hot food will be available on the day as on previous days, sausage rolls for breakfast and pies/pasties at lunchtime, with drinks available throughout the day.

And there's more! As an additional thank you for supporting this event, the Railway has offered everyone who books on the photo shoot one year's Group Membership of the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway.

On our last visit to the line many of the participants could not believe how great value the events were so we expect these to sell fast. We hope you will want to join us for what promises to be another excellent event at this charming location.

Event cost £59.00 per person.
