About this event

Cwmorthin Quarry is a slate quarry west of the village of Tanygrisiau, north Wales that was in operation from 1810 to 1997 and was connected to the Ffestiniog Railway. Surrounded by the eye catching landscapes of the Snowdonia mountain range this area is scattered with mining ruins and slate slag piles that echo the industry that once flourished here.

Our day will begin at 12pm where we will run a briefing before heading up into the quarry area. We plan to go further into the quarry today to discover more of the old slate dressing buildings and abandoned equipment. This will really lend itself to the two fantastic miner re-enactors we will have on hand so that you can capture images that really set the scenes from history against the backdrops of the old mining works. This will be a great opportunity to create atmospheric and convincing portraits of days gone by as they will be dressed in authentic looking Victorian miners clothing so there will be a chance to get some really creative and eye catching imagery! The distressed slate buildings and grey stone slag piles will create a wonderful shooting environment for dramatic portraiture. In addition to the environment that is very overpowering and perfect for great industrial landscape photography we hope to also use smoke grenades to add an extra dimension and atmosphere to your imagery.

We feel this day is a perfect addition to the day before, but either way you are assured of a great day venturing into an area of former Welsh industry.

This event is open to 12 photographers only.
