About this event

Following the success of this year’s vintage transport charters, we have some interesting events lined up to look forward to during the Spring and Summer of 2019. We will be taking to the road with charters in the Midlands using some classic vehicles and also straying a little further afield to do two open-topper double decker’s at the seaside in Devon.

For this trip, we will be using two beautiful single-decker coaches from the Roger Burdett Collection. One is an extremely rare Foden which worked across the country from its base in Biddulph. The second is the stunning York Pullman AEC Regal III which, although we have used it on one previous trip, some of you are very keen to photograph again.

The 'York Pullman' is a thirty-foot long Barnaby-bodied AEC Regal III half-cab coach with a 7.7-litre engine which was new to the York Pullman Bus Company Limited (later Reynard Pullman) in June 1954. The Company dates from 1926 and the name, plus the distinctive livery, were derived from the famous Pullman coaching stock running on the country's rail network. The Company carried over one million passengers per year by the 1970s, though a series of takeovers saw the name fall out of use in 2000, though it has subsequently been revived by another operator. The PVRF6 Foden is a very early rear-engined coach, believed to be the oldest vehicle of this type operational in the United Kingdom. It has a 4.1-litre two-stroke engine and Metalcraft coachwork and was part of the fleet of Hollinshead of Scholar Green (Biddulph, Cheshire) from April 1952 onwards and for whom it worked for all of its 20-year commercial career. We are delighted to have been offered use of these two superbly-restored coaches, each very different but both stunning vehicles.

We will include a couple of favorite locations but also intend to visit some different venues. Hopefully, you know by now that some diligent research goes into selecting locations and, given the appropriate lighting conditions, we should have some excellent opportunities.

Expected meeting place is Beckett’s Farm near Wythall in Worcestershire. This is located on the A435 Alcester Road, just one mile from Junction 3 of the M42. The restaurant is open from 07.30 for breakfasts and, as they allow us to park free of charge, it would be good to support them in terms of food and/or liquid refreshment before departure. There is also a well-stocked farm shop on site which opens from 07.30; the postal code is B47 6AJ.

Why not join us for a relaxed and enjoyable day out with lots of very good photographic locations thrown in for good measure!
