About this event

We are pleased to present a fantastic opportunity to photograph two visiting locomotives in steam and a livery change to 1338 at Didcot Railway Centre on a Summer's evening in June as we revisit the most authentic Western Region depot location with two visiting Western locomotives.

No.7903 was one of the final batch of Modified Halls (7900s) built at Swindon under BR auspices in 1949. In 1951, it was the first loco to cover the Plymouth to Paddington boat train route in under four hours. Predominantly an Old Oak Common engine, the loco spent its latter months at Cardfiff East Dock until withdrawal by British Railways in June 1964. It was restored from scrap yard condition by the Foremarke Hall Transport Group and the result is a great credit to its owners. As the only other 7900 to escape the cutter's torch, No.7927 Willington Hall, is acting as a donor to rebuild projects, 7903 is the only surviving example from this batch of Hall class locomotives.

No.1450 (originally 4850) was built by the Great Western Railway in 1935 being allocated to Oxford; in 1945, it was renumbered 1450. The loco spent 1951 to 1959 at Slough Depot before returning to Oxford and then running in the West Country based variously at Exeter, Taunton, Yeovil Town and finally Exmouth Junction. Withdrawal by BR came in May 1965, being initially preserved at the Dart Valley (now South Devon) Railway and later in the Forest of Dean. It is now owned by Push Pull Limited and based at the Severn Valley Railway.

1338 a resident of the Centre which is current;y carrying a GWR Green Livery will be seen in BR weathered black for this event only! With the use of a temporary coat of black poster paint we intend to present her as a 'work horse' loco as would of been seen on and around the Sheds on the Western Region back in the 1960's. 

Of course, we appreciate that the two visiting locos are in different liveries from each other so with this in mind, we will be setting up separate scenes featuring each engine in their own individual cameos along with more of the Centres own locomotives to compliment the different scenes. Our usual team of re-enactors will be appearing to bring the scenes to life along with the careful use of smoke machines to further enhance the experience. We hope you will join us for an evening of Western Region summer steam in June.
