About this event
Given the time of year this event will be split into two halves with our morning session starting at 06.00 in the yard at Swithland. This session will see us take in locations around Swithland and Rabbit Bridge before we retire for an extended daytime break. The break is to allow for the sun to get low in the west and the railway to run there service trains. Our day will then resume at around 17.00 and run until sunset. While we appreciate this is not the best time of year for Steam photography we believe the timings will allow us the best opportunities in high Summer.
Our trains will consist of two freights, one being the unique Minerals made up of around 16 wagons while the other will be the newly refurbished Box Vans, also consisting of around 16 wagons plus brake van.
We are planning to arrange passes for those booked to take a ride on the service trains during the daytime, or perhaps you might like to join us at the Butler Henderson Cafe at Quorn for breakfast after the morning session, (costs as per cafe menu).
This is the last chance to see two 8F’s passing under controlled conditions on the Great Central Railway as 8F 48624 is out of service in late July. However this also marks the first event to be run by us with newly restored 8F, 48305. We feel this is a very fitting way to mark the return of one 8F and the end of current boiler certificate on the other.
Both locomotives on our event will be in British Railways black livery, so this is pure 1950s-1960s nostalgia. So why not join us for this step back in time to when steam was the mainstay of the BR era! While this is a unique event recreating scenes of two trains passing there will also be opportunities to capture both locos on there own.
The price for this event is higher than a normal day on the Great Central Railway but with two large engines in steam for the day costs are clearly considerably higher.
