About this event

A day that will transport you back to the 1900’s and the wonderful world of Steampunk and the Victorian era! We will have exclusive access to this fantastic waterworks that is hosts a pair of triple-expansion steam engines which back in the day supplied north London with 39 million gallons of water! Kempton showcases some of Britain's greatest feats of steam engineering so what better place to capture a group of quirky and eccentric steam punk and victorian themed models as they show off their amazing outfits and gadgets! With the use of smoke machines and lighting we will be able to create eye catching and atmospheric imagery with the wonderful backdrops of this steam center!

For those that are not aware of this almost cult like area, Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunk genre, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian, in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Therefore, steampunk may be described as neo-Victorian.

It is fair to say that Steampunk most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art. Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G.Wells and Jules Verne. Other examples of steampunk contain alternative-history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airships, analogue computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine. Steampunk may also incorporate additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre. The first known appearance of the term steampunk was in 1987, though it now retroactively refers to many works of fiction created as far back as the 1950s or 1960s.

Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction, Victorian-era fiction, art nouveau design, and films from the mid-20th century. Various modern utilitarian objects have been moddled by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk.

To aid photography this day will be limited to just 18 participants.

Our session will start at 10.30 where we will begin by taking architectural images and have a look around the site until 11am. Then our models will start posing for our cameras around the waterworks.  The day will run until approximately 16.30. There is onsite parking and in addition to the main buildings you will be free to explore the grounds.

Hot drinks will be available but there is no food catering on site so please bring your own provisions.
