About this event

Join us for the first event of its kind- Napoleonic battle re-enactment at the Royal Gunpowder mills! We will have a military group of soldier re-enactors on site for us to photograph in action including members of the Kings German Legion! There will be musket firing with blanks to create the authentic atmosphere of battle! As well as capturing the drama and action scenes of the battlefield we will also have the opportunity to take up close portraits of the soldiers around this fascinating site! This promises to be an action packed day full of unique photography opportunities in a historic setting, so if you fancy something a bit different, join us as we take you back in time to the days when the Napoleonic wars were raging around Europe!

The Royal Gunpowder Mills boasts historic backdrops with crumbling brick buildings and plenty of natural foliage. This site was in operation as a Gunpowder Mills for over 300 years; however, from the mid-1850s onwards the site was involved in developing new nitro-based explosives and propellants. As the site grew in size, and gunpowder became less important. Shortly after WWII it became solely a Defence Research Establishment - firstly the Explosives Research and Development Establishment, then the Propellants, Explosives and Rocket Motor Establishment Waltham Abbey; and finally the Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment Waltham Abbey. Its superior production methods and high quality results earned it a reputation on an international.

Timings are 10:30 - 16:30 and there will be hot drinks and refreshements available for you to purchase throughout the day.
