About this eventWe are delighted to be returning to the world-famous heritage site at Blists Hill for a day of period re-enacting photography set against the Museumís superb backdrop of shops, pub, canal and ironworks. We will have re-enactors representing both the middle and working classes appearing in differing scenes and locations.
The Museum has countless possibilities for recreating historically accurate period scenes with people, whether it be in the recreated Main Street, alongside the canal, posed at shop windows, outside small cottages or working hard at the ironworks. The buildings are either originals which have been carefully rebuilt on site, or replicas that have been constructed to their original designs. The village at Blists Hill is part of the world famous Ironbridge complex of ten museums. As a setting for period events from the Victorian era onwards the site is excellent and ideal for our latest adventure.
The creation of Blists Hill as a museum began in 1967 at the same time that a brand new town, Telford, was being built on the former East Shropshire Coalfield. The industrial archeology that had so defined the region during the Industrial Revolution was gradually disappearing and it was felt that efforts should be made to preserve the buildings and artifacts that were so much a part of the areaís history. The result is the stunning collection of ten Museums that now form such an impressive record of the areaís heritage and which is recognized as a World Heritage Site. Covering some fifty-acres, Blists Hill incorporates some of the locationís original industrial features which have been restored. In addition, many other buildings have been constructed to create a small town reminiscent of the area at the turn of the Nineteenth Century.
Our previous visits to Blists Hill have all worked extremely well and we are looking forward to returning for another great day at this superb venue to add to and attempt to improve upon the widely-seen images created on our earlier events.
We will meet at 09.45 for a 10.00 start. The event will run until approximately 16.30 with a short lunch break around mid-day. There is ample parking on site which costs circa £3.00 for a full day. Blists Hill is an excellent site that offers a multitude of photographic opportunities with our correctly-costumed and experienced group of re-enactors, so why not join us for a grand Autumnal day out at this centrally-located venue so ideal for heritage photography.
