About this event

With grateful thanks to the Great Western Society we are pleased to announce one final event over the weekend of the 12th & 13th of September with King Edward II, 6023. This really is the last chance to catch the ‘Blue King’ at full height ahead of her Boiler Certificate expiring on the 15th of September.

Star of the show will be King Edward II in British Railways early blue livery, with a number of supporting Western Region Locos to ensure a full Shed scene to ensure authenticity. We will have use of a Cornish Riviera headboard and Reporting Numbers during the event to add further an air of period realism to a number of scenes. And of course a supporting cast of period re-enactors bringing the scenes to life with that all-important human interest.

This really is a great opportunity to capture the sights and sounds of a former Western Region Shed that has changed little since it last saw steam under the ownership of British Railways in the mid 1960’s. It is equally the last chance to capture scenes with such an iconic Loco in steam ahead of her Boiler Certificate sadly expiring just a few days later. We have no clue what the future holds for this icon, however we are sure she will return to steam in the future but there is certainly no date for this and no guarantees of what livery she will return in.

We plan to recreate numerous nostalgic cameos around the site, in and outside the main shed and by the coal stage. .

There will be an evening and morning session over the weekend. With the Saturday evening session running between 17:00 and 22.00. Our morning session will resume with 6023 being prepared for a days work under the Coal Stage hopefully bathed in early morning sunshine, this session will commence at 06.30 and run until 09.00. Both sessions will include site access during public opening times.

Currently all of our events will run in line with our Covid-19 policy that follows government guidelines. You can find our Covid-19 policy information page here.
