The Paddle
Steamer Waverley makes a return to London this Autumn during October and we are
pleased offer a day trip photographing her as she makes her way from Gravesend out towards the WWII Thames Forts, stopping off at the UK's longest Pier Southend on her way.
Leaving Gravesend around 12.00noon we pick up with the PS Waverley as she makes her way along the Thames towards Southend where she makes her next stop after departing Gravesend. From here we sail on with her to the vast iron structures that are the Thames Forts. Built in the Second World War to protect the London and the Thames Estuary from attack they lay abandoned like great sea monsters rising up from the sea bed, our trip will take in two of the Forts, Red Sands and Shivering Sands. With the Sun now low in the sky, potentially offering us beautiful golden light we make a retreat to Southend Pier-head before setting sail back to Gravesend.
For this trip we
will be aboard a 35ft 12PAX Fast Lauch capable or 30 knots, so keeping up and
in deed passing the Waverley is going to be no problem for our ex experienced
skipper Richard. Anyone who has been on a previous trip will tell you that this
boat is perfect for a day on the Thames chasing any craft. She is roomy and has
an inside area, useful for storing our equipment and of course us if the
weather turns.
Start point for
this trip will be a Pier at Gravesend and will see us out for around 6 hours. Spaces will be restricted to 10 due insurance so booking early is essential to avoid disappointment.
