About this event

It gives us great pleasure to announce a short notice event with 2 sessions available with just 8 photographers in each session, courtesy of the Historic Army Aircraft Flight (HAAF) based at Middle Wallop. This is a unique opportunity that would otherwise not be possible without the exclusive access we have arranged.

During this session we will observe and shadow the aircraft engineers as they carry out their extensive maintenance checks on a combination of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. The HAAF collection aircraft consists of a Auster Mk 1, Auster Mk 9, Beaver, Chipmunk, Sioux, Scout, Skeeter and a Tiger Moth.
Four of them are kept in an airworthy state to allow the HAAF to display them at air shows around the UK. This event will give us a fantastic insight into what is required over the winter months as we follow the dedicated engineers carrying out their meticulous tasks. It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of the HAAF engineers in keeping these fantastic historic aircraft and helicopters flying that allows them to be displayed to the public.

Due to the maintenance program we cannot guarantee which aircraft the engineers will be working on during this event. There will however be ample opportunities to capture some unique photos during the ever changing scene.

This promises to be another exciting and unique photographic workshop and proceeds from this event will help support the HAAF to maintain these fantastic aircraft for generations to come.

We have also included a visit to the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop.
The museum covers the five main branches of Army Aviation: Royal Engineers (1878 – 1912), The Royal Flying Corps (1912-1918), Air Observation Post Squadrons (1941 – 1957), the Glider Pilot Regiment (1942 – 1957) and the current Army Air Corps (1957- to date).
Over 40 aircraft can be seen in the Museum.
The collection also contains smaller items such as uniforms, medals and equipment which they use to tell inspiring stories about the people involved in Army aviation.
