About this event

Shropshire is a truly scenic county, inspiring such famous writers as A E Housman, Mary Webb, Malcolm Saville and Ellis Peters, and this will be the destination for two days of Summer photography using two classic buses, one on each day, as we approach the longest day of the year. We may not visit all of "the quietest places under the sun" but we intend to include many scenic locations as we turn the clock back to the heyday of the Bedford OB in the 1950s and early 1960s.

Our vehicle for the day is one of the classic Bedford OB single-deckers with Duple Vista bodywork and a bull-nose front. The coach was new to Wye Valley Coaches of Hereford and is now operated by Boultons of Shropshire. The Bedford OB vehicles date from the Summer of 1939 though history ensured that very few were produced as, with the advent of World War II, production was given over to the war effort.

Production, with some modifications and Duple Vista bodywork, resumed in 1946. Over 12,500 were made with production continuing until the very early 1950s. The vehicles became a common sight (and for fans of whining gearboxes, familiar sound!) on the roads of Britain throughout the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and are regarded with much nostalgia and affection.

Please note that places are particularly limited on this day. A Bedford OB is limited to 29 passengers and we will also have our vintage passengers (in terms of dress rather than age!) travelling with us. We also want conditions for photography to be comfortable. Starting point is expected to be Church Stretton at around 09.15 for 09.30, finish approximately 17.30 hours. We should be joined by some appropriate heritage vehicles and there will be a break for lunch and to give our driver a required rest. And no, we won't have the wedding ribbons for the charter..!

We hope a number of you will join us for what we hope will be a relaxed and enjoyable day out with some great photographic opportunities thrown in for good measure.

Event Cost £52.00 per person.
