About this event

Ever wondered how the BBC and other program makers get street scenes in London during daylight hours with little or no traffic….? Well generally it’s because the filming is done late at night or in the early hours of the morning.

With the continued popularity of our regular vintage buses at night on the streets of the Capital we are now offering you the chance to capture two stunningly preserved London Transport Buses at various locations around the City at Sunrise. On the 3rd of September, we will be meeting at 03.00 close to Parliament Square to start our trip, taking in a number of locations before positioning ourselves on Waterloo Bridge in readiness for the Sunrise over the City. Our morning will then continue to take in a number of other locations in the Westend before finishing at our start location at around 09.00.

Our vintage buses for this trip will be the very beautiful RT3251 & RML ER882, both buses owned and operated by Ensign Buses Ltd.

RT3251 new in 1948 this particular RT was delivered as a green Country Area bus, however its long life with London Transport would see it become a red bus before earning its moment in the record books by being the very last RT in London Transport service. After recovering the vehicle from Birmingham in 2004, the bus was readied after a years work to make its debut on the final day of Routemasters in service in December 2005. Completely restored to its 1979 condition, this particular vehicle holds a special place in many peoples memories being the last of one of London’s favourite vehicles to have operated.

In 1961 London Transport gained permission to build 24 Routemasters to a slightly longer design so that they could seat 72 passengers. Initially only 24 were built as an experiment and RML ER882 is one of these trailblazers of its class and indeed was one of the first three that gained the ER (Extended Routemaster) classification rather than the RML (Routemaster Longer) of its younger siblings. The experiment was successful and the last 500 planned Routemasters were all delivered to this longer specification. The early 24 always stood out by having a number of the features that the later RML’s never had, which is the specification she is restored to, right down to the period adverts of the early 1960s.

We hope many of our regular supporters of bus events along with some new photographers will want to join us for this very unique event. Numbers will be limited to aid comfort at certain locations so to avoid disappointment we recommend an early booking.

Event cost £69.00 per person.
