About this event

The first of our two early June events taking us back to the 1940s. Today, we concentrate entirely on the railway and transport aspects of the Second World War, being based in and around the station and yard complex at Quorn & Woodhouse Station. This is not currently scheduled as a running day on the Railway, so we should have unrestricted use of the platform and station areas should we need them. We have also asked for access to the staircase leading from the platform to the road which is such a strong feature of GCR stations so that we can set up different shots using the stairs populated only with period re-enactors.

Our event will begin at 14.30 and will continue, with breaks for 'scene shifting' and refreshments, until approximately 20.00 hours. By 1st June, many of the attractions will have arrived prior to the public event on the following three days. Amongst those present will be the 82nd Airborne Division representing the USA troops who were based at Quorn during the Second World War. The 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment were stationed at Quorn from 14th February 1944 prior to their involvement in the D-Day Campaign and later Operation Market Garden. In D-Day alone the Regiment lost 220 soldiers out of 2000, and they are commemorated by a plaque in the memorial gardens in Quorn village.

Also on site will be re-enacting groups representing the US Parachute Team Jump 44, The Royal Signals (battlefield communication systems), 101st Battalion with personnel, jeeps and tents, the Tommy Atkins Society with personnel and vehicles, and the vintage fire engine section. We will also have some 'civilian' re-enactors and vehicles plus any number of period 'props' to use around the station with our re-enactors. Closer to the event, we will update you on any further attractions that have been added to the mix, but already we have the makings of a most interesting few hours of photography.

Numbers will be limited to 25 for this event to ensure comfortable conditions for photography. We hope you will wish to join us for what promises to be another excellent event.

Event cost £49.00 per person.
