About this event

We are excited to be able to offer TimeLine Events' participants the rare chance to photograph a Stanier Pacific at sunset and by night at the Midland Railway Centre on Saturday 9th September. Our event will see No.46233 Duchess of Sutherland on Mark I stock in and around the superbly-recreated station at Swanwick Junction. We hope to recreate busy scenes reminiscent of a main line junction station with our re-enactors friends. The event will start in daylight at 18.00 and will run throughout the evening until 23.00 hours. We expect this to be the last opportunity for a photo shoot with 46233 in British Railways lined green livery before she is repainted over the course of the coming winter.

We have also requested the use of Princess Margaret Rose, if we get this opportunity we will use our smoke and steam machines to breath life back into her.

No.46233 was built at Crewe Works and was completed in July 1938 with a single chimney and without smoke deflectors, being initially allocated to Camden in London. The double chimney was fitted in March 1941 and smoke deflectors followed in September 1945. In British Railways service, the 'Duchess' worked out of Crewe North and (more briefly) Carlisle Upperby and Camden Depots. She was put into storage in October 1963 and was withdrawn from Liverpool's Edge Hill shed in February 1964; she would have carried Brunswick green livery from 1952 onwards (repainted from blue). She is now owned by the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust, to whom we are extremely grateful for allowing us use of their superb 'Pacific' for the evening.

We expect this event to be very popular, and hope many of you will wish to join us for what promises to be an exciting evening recreating the nostalgia of 1950s and early 1960s steam.

Event cost £70.00 per person.
