About this event

One of the major highlights of 2017 will unquestionably be events surrounding A3 locomotive Flying Scotsman. With our events at Didcot Railway Centre now sold out we are pleased to be travelling north to bring you another opportunity to catch this fine engine. Joined this time by the equally impressive A1 steam locomotive Tornado we will be bringing these two famous engines together for one night only at the mecca that is Barrow Hill Round House.

This event will feature the two Eastern Region heavies on shed at Barrow Hill, an afternoon sunset shoot along with an extended night shoot at the top of the yard where the scene has changed little in the years since steam last drew breath at the Round House. Both engines being to large to fit inside the Midland Round House we will spend our evening outside creating many different cameos with the locos together and separately. Add to this our wonderful re-enactor friends and we think you will have a great evening of photo opportunities.

Our session will start ahead of sunset, allowing plenty of opportunity to capture these fine engines in all there glory. As the sunsets over the site we will continue to stage various cameos before setting up lights to offer you further photographic opportunities recreating night scenes that were once common place up and down the British Isles. To ensure our photography recreations are as close to the early 1960's we will position supporting stock around the site to mask any modern traction that is a big part of the successes of Barrow Hill in 2017.

Although this is being billed as a smaller event to what has been staged at Didcot Railway Centre we feel it is nonetheless not lacking in opportunity and creation. There are few places in the UK that offer original shed locations with infrastructure that has changed little in over 50 years. The event is being staged to help offset the not inconsiderable cost of bringing in two large locos and allows us as photographers to contribute in a meaningful way to the staging of this major event, the first since the reopening of the Round House as well as hopefully getting some rare and memorable photo opportunities into the bargain.

We will have exclusive use of the site from 17.30 onwards and we expect to continue well into the evening. To help you get through the evening the cafe will be open and providing hot snacks and drinks up until earlier evening.

Numbers will be limited to ensure a comfortable environment for photography.

We look forward to seeing many of you at Barrow Hill in September for what should be another great event.

Event cost £60.00 per person.
