About this event

The North Norfolk Railway’s Weybourne station is the venue for our nocturnal session of photography as we pose No.90775 on maroon Mark I stock in the platform at Weybourne following our day shoot using this recently-overhauled locomotive. This evening session is included in the price of the full day charter, but a limited number of places have now been made available to book separately as a night shoot only. 

No.90775 was built during World War II in 1943 for the Railway Executive Committee as part of the war effort and spent its entire working life overseas. After completion in December 1943 by North British in Glasgow as works number 25438 (Ministry of Supply No.3652 and WD73652), the locomotive became one of several shipped to Egypt where they were placed in storage. In 1946, as part of the United Nations' efforts to re-equip war-torn countries, sixteen locos including 90775 were sent by sea to Greece, where they worked for Hellenic State Railways for some 27 years. After falling out of use, 90775 was repatriated to Great Britain in August 1984 along with a substantial number of spare parts including more than one brand new firebox, still in the original North British crates! The loco was quickly returned to traffic, in the process being returned to its more original British appearance and taking the number 90775, the next in sequence following the last member of the class to be built for BR service, No.90774. The loco initially worked on the Mid-Hants Railway during which time it appeared as No.601 Sturdee in dark blue livery. Periods followed at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (where it featured in two episodes of Heartbeat) and briefly at the Great Central Railway before moving on loan to the North Norfolk Railway in 2003. When offered for sale, the 'WD' was purchased by the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway Society in 2006 for use on the NNR. The loco has undergone a major overhaul at the line's Weybourne Works and has recently returned to steam. 

The night shoot is expected to start around 18.00 hours.
