About this event

A day of two halves, come with us as we transport you back to the 1800’s when our waterways and water supply systems were littered with heavily engineered and beautifully finished Victorian structures. A morning recreating scenes of a bygone age when men toiled to keep these huge beam engines pumping the nation’s water. Come and feel the heat, smell the oil and photograph the steam.

This session will concentrate on recording the sights and sounds of the wonderful piece of Victorian engineering that is Papplewick Pumping Station. With its huge beam engines, massive boilers and heavy cast iron infrastructure we will be spoilt for choice as we set scenes with appropriately dressed Victorian engineers and fireman to recreate cameos from a bygone era.

If you love the Victorian age and all that it stands for you will simply not want to miss this opportunity and all that we have planned. From the shear splendor of the whole site, to the smallest of details you will be immersed in every way, the opportunities will be endless. From early morning when the mighty engines come to life with the raising of steam we intend to set cameos with re-enactors that will transport you back in time; in addition we are going to have dedicated areas for macro photography and given that we have the site to ourselves we shall take the opportunity to photograph the architecture and grandeur without members of the public in shot.

This session will be limited to just 25 participants to aid photography in some of the tighter locations.

Our session will start at 08.00 and run until approximately 12.30, the on site café will be open throughout selling hot snacks, sandwiches, hot drinks and cakes. There is plenty of onsite parking and after the event you will be free to explore the grounds and gardens.

We are also running a separate afternoon session starting at 14.00, this event will be similar to our morning but with more focus on Papplewick being the backdrop to a ‘Photographing the People’ shoot. With more Victorian re-enactors joining us we plan to set a number of scenes in and around the site using a number of special effects and lighting. To book this session please click here.

Event cost £65.00 per person.
