About this event

We are really kicking the 2018 season off with a bang, with what is already planned we are extremely pleased to now bring you a very rare chance indeed, to capture the very unique and rare De Havilland Vampire T.11 WZ507. This opportunity will not only see us get up close and personal with her from mid afternoon, it will also see her take to the air and do what she is best at, flying for the assembled photographers, a very rare opportunity indeed.

Based at Coventry Airport the Vampire has not been seen to much in public on the display circuit for a number of years due to various circumstances so we see this as a fantastic opportunity to catch this fine airframe from all the angles up close and personal. Couple her with daylight, sunset, a nightshoot, a flight, then add a few re-enactors, maybe a little trickery, the possibility of her breathing fire for us, some lighting, and we believe we have the ingredients for a very good afternoons photography.

The De Havilland Vampire was the first single engine jet (utilising the Goblin engine) to enter service with the RAF. DH Vampire T.11 WZ507 is the only airworthy ex-RAF Vampire in the Northern Hemisphere, all others being Swiss export versions. '507, also under the civil register as G-VTII was built at Christchurch, UK, in 1952, being delivered to the RAF in March 1953. Originally serving at Chivenor with the OCU, it went on the serve with a number of squadrons. In 1980, it became the first ex military jet to be put onto the civilian register after a restoration. The jet has been off the display scene for a few years due to increasingly busy lives for its two pilots, making its recent occasional event appearances, and the chances to see the jet, even rarer.
