About this event

We are pleased to be able to offer a day of passing shots using two BR-liveried locomotives taking advantage of the Great Central Railway's unique feature, its double track main line. It is not possible to reproduce passing shots at any other venue and it is some three years since we attempted to recreate similar scenes at the Railway, then using steam and diesel rather than two steam locomotives.

Our charter will start from Loughborough station at 07.30 though please arrive before this to allow time for our customary but necessary safety briefing before the charter begins. The griddle car will be open from 06.30 in the morning serving hot breakfasts plus teas, coffees and other hot drinks.

As one of our trains will be comprised of passenger stock, we will be able to travel on the train between locations throughout the day.

We will be using the recently returned to steam '5MT' Class 4-6-0 No.73156 on maroon passenger stock facing south. Our other loco will be an '8F' Class locomotive facing north on a goods train and we will spend much of the day recreating passing shots around Swithland, Kinchley Lane and possibly Woodthorpe. The '8F' will be either No.48624 or 48305; the latter is currently entering the final stages of an overhaul back to full working order with a scheduled target date of January 2019 for completion.

Both locomotives on our charter will be in British Railways black livery, so this is pure 1950s-1960s nostalgia. So why not join us for this step back in time to when steam was the mainstay of the BR era! While this is a unique event recreating scenes of two trains passing there will also be opportunities to capture both locos on there own.

The price for this event is higher than a normal day on the Great Central Railway but with two large engines in steam for the day costs are clearly considerably higher.

Event cost £115.00 per person.
