About this event

We are delighted to be able to offer a day out in Lincolnshire photographing and travelling on board an immaculately-restored PD3 built in 1960. We had an extremely enjoyable day out with Delaine’s PD2/20 in Autumn 2017 so a day with their PD3/1 is indeed a day to look forward to, this time in mid-Summer 2019.

W S Yeates of Loughborough built over 1000 bus and coach bodies between 1946 and 1964, but only two of them were for double-decker buses and both of these were special orders for Delaine. RCT 3 is the surviving example of the two and is the longest-serving existing Yeates-bodied vehicle, having been registered continuously with Delaine since June 1960 in both ordinary service and then as heritage vehicle. The PD3/1 was also the last rear-entrance bus in service with Delaine at the time of its withdrawal in December 1969.

RCT 3 spent all of its working life with the Company from its introduction in June 1960 and is preserved by the Delaine Heritage Trust in stunning condition and carrying the livery of its owners. Today, the Company has four vehicles preserved in Trust alongside its fleet of modern buses which remain a familiar sight in and around the towns of Lincolnshire.

With grateful thanks to the Delaine Heritage Trust, we will take to the roads for a full day with this impressive vehicle in and around the villages near Bourne in Lincolnshire where the bus is based – and there are some excellent rural locations in the area.

Those who joined us for our previous trip with Delaine will know that they are very enthusiastic and professional, and that there are some excellent locations to be visited in this under-appreciated area of the country. Cost is £52.00 per person and we will do our very best to ensnare some period passengers and one or two vintage vehicles to add to the scenes. A Delaine bus in its home area is as authentic as one can get, and we hope you will wish to join us in June for what promises to be another excellent and enjoyable day out.
