About this event

Following our successful ventures into Coventry City Centre and the Birmingham suburbs in 2018, we are delighted to be able to offer another chance to photograph a Birmingham double-decker bus in its natural habitat. Whilst many locations have changed beyond recognition since the 1950s, there are still places that offer the opportunity to photograph against backdrops that have changed relatively little. Those who joined us for our trip in May 2018 will know that we managed some excellent shots, many without the interference from modern traffic, though a little patience was required at times.

The charter is scheduled during the Whitsun Bank Holiday week when the schools are on holiday, which should reduce the amount of traffic with which we have to contend. Our expected meeting place is Beckett’s Farm near Wythall in Worcestershire. This is located on the A435 Alcester Road, just one mile from Junction 3 of the M42. The restaurant is open from 07.30 for breakfasts and, as they allow us to park free of charge, it would be good to support them in terms of food and/or liquid refreshment before departure. There is also a well-stocked farm shop on site which opens from 07.30; the postal code is B47 6AJ for those who are trusting to satellite navigation.

Our bus for this charter dates from 1953 and is privately-owned. It has been immaculately preserved in the classy deep blue and pale yellow livery of Birmingham Corporation which many folks will remember with fondness. It was Fleet No.3009 and is a Guy Arab IV with a Metro-Cammell body.

Expect period passengers to join us, along with the occasional extra vehicle.
