About this event

Didcot is not just a Shed! With GWR 813 visiting Didcot Railway Centre from her home base of the Severn Valley Railway this Autumn we have taken the opportunity to steam her for a morning of Branch line photography. Didcot Baranchline may not be long but it offers so many different photo opportunities that we can guarantee you will be amazed at what is on offer when you join us for this very period correct event with a decidedly Great Western feel.

A real treat is in store for those who have never done a daytime event at Didcot Railway Centre beyond the running shed. The bulk of our morning will be spent with 813 in steam on various combinations to include coaches, wagons plus if time allows a mix of both. We will concentrate our photography on the Branch where there are countless opportunities to recreate cameo's from a bygone era. These include the beautiful Radstock Signal Box, Didcot Halt, The Transfer Shed, Frome Signal Box and the countless location between, all of which are very convincingly a GWR branch from the 1930's and 40's. Add to this we will ensure there is a smattering period passengers and correctly dressed railway staff all to increase the feeling of being back in time.

Ex-Great Western Railway 0-6-0 Saddle Tank locomotive 813 (formerly Port Talbot & Docks Railway 26), is one of the last survivors of the many tank locomotives absorbed into the GWR in the first quarter of the 20th century from formerly independent railways in South Wales. The locomotive was purchased from the National Coal Board in 1967 and moved in the same year from Backworth Colliery, Northumberland, to the Severn Valley Railway where the lengthy task of restoration was subsequently commenced. She is now a regular on the SVR taking her turn on passenger services.

This event is limited to 20 photographers to ensure comfortable photography.
