About this event
Put early Autumn in the Welsh hills together with a couple of days photography on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, a line that is a favorite amongst many Narrow Gauge enthusiasts and you really have a magical combination. Add to the fact that it’s been a number of years since any orgainsed photography on the line has been done at this time of year and you have a really worthwhile opportunity.
Everyone’s favourite combination (almost!) - No.822 The Earl on a train of wagons, reminiscent of the Railway as run in British Railways days just prior to closure. We are also having the loco lightly weathered to add to the authenticity of a 1950’s feel.
Please note the freight consist on this day will be altered from that of that the 5th to give people doing both days added variety.
We will run all day with the exception of a lunch break and have sole occupation of the line. The event will start at around 09.00am from Llanfair Station.
The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway was built in 1903 to link farming communities with the market town of Welshpool and provide them with an outlet for their produce. Operated at first by the Cambrian Railways, the line was taken over by the Great Western and then British Railways.
After 1931 the railway only carried freight traffic and was finally closed in 1956; but that was not the end. In 1963 a group of enthusiasts rallied round and began to progressively re-open the line until it became the railway you see today. It is that era shortly before the line was closed that we aim to recreate to the best of our ability.
Event cost £50.00 per person.
