About this event

Our locomotive for the day will be No.5199, courtesy of the 5199 Project Group. The loco is currently in BR plain black, however she is being weathered by Iain Ross for a special 1960s weekend at the Railway and we are delighted to have been offered the chance to work with Iain and run a day's charter on the Friday prior to this event. We will use the engine on a short pick-up goods in the morning, starting from Llangollen at 07.00 and running prior to service trains until 10.00. There is a light three train service during the day starting at 10.40 for which 5199 is currently rostered. In the afternoon, we will run from approximately 17.15 until sunset with the railways BR red suburban stock. We will be including the extension from Carrog to Corwen in our schedule, as there are some very nice photographic locations on the newest section of line.

No.5199 was built at Swindon in 1934 and allocated from new to Tyseley Depot in Birmingham for use on commuter services and other local passenger workings, In 1949, the loco moved across the Midlands to Stourbridge, then to Wolverhampton in 1961 before being latterly allocated to Gloucester (Horton Road) from where she was withdrawn in 1963. Rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry in 1985, she eventually returned to steam in February 2003. After her recent overhaul, she has returned to steam in unlined British Railways black with the early emblem; in this livery, with some judiciously applied weathering, she should look stunning on both goods and passenger sets.

We are sure this will prove a popular day savouring a nostalgic reminder of steam in the early 1960s. Immediately afterwards the railway will be holding there own 1960's gala so you may wish to consider extending your visit to North Wales.

Event cost £55.00 per person.
