About this event

Following on from our successful date with the beautiful Avro Shackleton in December 2016 we are pleased to bring you rare opportunity to capture her on Tarmac! We are excited to announce that on the 25th of February we will experience her do a rare taxi run during daylight hours before parking up on the Tarmac in front of the Hangars adjacent to her normal grass resting place. Then as darkness falls we will light her ahead of another engine run up. Seeing a Shackleton do an engine run on Tarmac is pretty rare so we are very pleased that negotiations have born this opportunity. Add to this we will also bring you plenty of photo cameos with our re-enactor friends that will join us on the day.

The Avro Shackleton Developed from the Avro Lincoln (itself a development of the wartime Lancaster) the Shackleton came from the pen of Roy Chadwick. The aircraft took the Lincoln's wings and landing gear and mated them with a new fuselage and four Rolls-Royce Griffon engines turning huge 13ft diameter contra-rotating propellers - the distinctive sound of which gained it the nickname GROWLER! The type first flew in 1949 and would serve the RAF until 1991! Although originally designed as an anti-submarine aircraft it would also operate as maritime reconnaissance roles and later as an airborne early warning (AEW) platform.

Our day will start is yet to be confirmed but we expect it to be around 13.00 ahead of the taxi run. Once back safely on the Tarmac there will be plenty of static cameos around the plane and clean shots from many different angles. There will also be opportunity for internal photography. Then as darkness falls we will experience another engine run up, this time extended to around 25 minutes. This we hope will not only give the chance of capturing her with her iconic props in full tilt through the blue hour but also to give everyone plenty of time to get all the different angles on the beautiful old bird, all while in the setting of a 'real period backdrop'.

As with our previous event with this aircraft and to aid the close up cameos further we will be limiting the attendees.

We will be finishing our time with WR963 at around 19.15 to allow time to vacate the Airport in good time ahead of its closing time of 19.30.

Event cost £55.00 per person.
