About this event

We are delighted to be able to offer a unique opportunity to photograph a British Railways black-liveried 4-4-0 in and around a genuine steam era shed with all of the atmosphere and nostalgia that this mouth-watering prospect evokes.

As part of the deal that has seen Morayshire venture south again in the last few months of her current boiler ticket, we have negotiated and now happily confirm a flying, one day only visit to Barrow Hill Roundhouse. This will be the only charter at Barrow Hill using the D49 as she will be in steam on just one occasion before heading north again. Barrow Hill, though essentially a Midland Depot, fell under the control of British Railways Eastern Region from February 1958 (coded 41E until October 1965).

The date will be Saturday 14th March 2015 and will see Morayshire giving rides for the general public during the day. Our photographic session will run from 16.00 onwards with the 'Shire' positioned initially in the yard and outside the shed. She will then move indoors to be posed on the turntable, and we will set up further cameos within the roundhouse with the locomotive posed together with 'A2' Pacific Blue Peter and the J17 (G58) 0-6-0 No.8217; the latter is part of the National Collection and is currently on display at Barrow Hill.

To round off the event, which will run until approximately midnight, we will pose Morayshire with two further locos from the National Collection - Midland Compound No.1000 and Great Central 'Director' No.506 Butler Henderson - giving the enticing and extremely rare spectacle of seeing three 4-4-0 tender locos lined up together.

We have agreed to pay the extremely high cost of diverting the 'Shire' on its low loader to the Midlands on its way home from East Anglia to Scotland for this very special event and it will be entirely down to you, the photographers who always support us so well, to help make this happen. The opportunity will not occur again in the foreseeable future, as the 'Shire' will be withdrawn from traffic towards the end of 2015 and be repainted into LNER green livery when her next major overhaul has been completed.

We hope many of you will want to join us for this rare opportunity to photograph Morayshire in the environs of a steam era roundhouse; between us, we can make this a truly memorable event.

The cost for this unique opportunity will be £65.00 per person and numbers will be strictly limited.
