About this event

Given the past successes of our events at Barrow Hill where some truly outstanding images have been created over the years, we are excited to be returning in the new year for another of our unique atmospheric evenings in the shed.

This event will see us concentrate on bringing the Midland Kirtley back to life with the use of our smoke and lights.

The locos will be in close proximity to each other to add the feeling of a full shed.

Barrow Hill Roundhouse has a wealth of heritage and is last remaining roundhouse in the UK. The site of many past events this really is a wonderful location that really needs to be seen at night to appreciate its grandeur. Our evening will see us bring our chosen steam residents to life through the use of smoke and steam machines. With our proven techniques we defy you to not believe the iron horses are about to leave the shed and pull trains all over the Midlands. Add to this our dedicated re-enactors offering the human interest and you are in for a truly memorable evening.

Having run some very successful similar events in the south at Didcot Railway Centre we have every reason to believe this event will also generated some truly outstanding images. Given how popular these shoots have been we expect this return visit to Barrow Hill to be no different.

Our evening starting at around 17:30 will see us concentrating exclusively in the main shed all evening, closing the doors to keep the hall full of smoke and steam our period dressed loco crews, cleaners, fitters and a works foremen will act out the various different scenes that were once a common sight in every engine shed. We plan to finish around 22:00 which we feel will give everyone plenty of time in a relaxed way to fully capture all the scenes on offer.

This event is going to be limited to 25 photographers so ensure comfortable surroundings and easy use of tripods. We therefore recommend booking early to avoid disappointment, given how popular previous events have been. So come and join us to capture the very essence of what this former Midland Steam Roundhouse after dark has to offer.
