About this event

Moved from October 31st due to loco not being ready.

Our visit to the P&DSR in the Spring of 2017 will see us using the railways Standard 4, 75014. The loco is currently having a major overhaul but will be back on the line running in and taking charge of service trains from the middle of 2016. So by the time we get to see her in early November she will have settled in nicely. Built December 1951 at Swindon, withdrawn from British Railways in 1966. The British Railway 4-6-0 Standard Class 4 was built for use on the Western, Midland and Southern regions of the then recently nationalised rail network. They were extremely versatile mixed traffic locos, frequently used on passenger duties. 75014 was allocated to a number of Midland region sheds during its short life and 1964 saw allocation to Shrewsbury from where she was withdrawn and sent to Barry scrap yard in December 1966. In Barry scrap yard for fourteen years, she rotted and donated parts to other locos, until being bought as a wreck in 1981. A four man syndicate based on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway brought her back to steam in 1994. For four consecutive years, 1995-98, and in 2000 she was the mainstay of the "Jacobite'' tourist train from Fort William. The syndicate decided to sell the loco in 2002 and the Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat Company was fortunate to become the new owners, we are therefore delighted to be using a loco with such great history.

Our days will follow a similar pattern to those already completed on the railway, visting locations such as Waterside, Broadsands Viaduct, Greenway and of course Maypool Viaduct. Both days will start at 07.00 from Paignton and will finish at Sunset before return to Paignton. On the first day of the charters, 75014 (minus her nameplates) will face Smokebox to Kingswear throughout the day with her being turned on our return to Paignton in readiness for the following day, when she will face smokebox into Paignton. There will be a very short lunch break both days back at Paignton but as the days are short this will be kept to a minimum. Day one the 12th March we will be using the railways Chocolate and Cream MK1 set which is currently a rake of 5 coaches.

The Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway remains one of the lines that seldom sees photographic charters so we hope many of you will wish to join us, now in March.

Event cost £70.00 per person.
